How does the room color palette generator work?

Upload any photo of a room and our tool uses canvas-based color analysis to extract the dominant colors. It samples pixels across the image, groups similar colors together, and identifies the 6 most prominent colors in the room. It then generates complementary and analogous palette suggestions using color theory.

What are analogous colors?

Analogous colors sit next to each other on the color wheel (e.g., blue, blue-green, and green). These create harmonious, cohesive color schemes that feel natural and calming. They're perfect for rooms where you want a unified, relaxing atmosphere.

How do I choose the right color palette for my room?

Consider the room's purpose: cool blues and greens are calming for bedrooms, warm yellows and oranges are energizing for kitchens. Start with the dominant colors already in the room (furniture, floors) and use this tool to extract them. Then use the complementary or analogous suggestions to find colors that work together.

Can I use the extracted colors for paint shopping?

Yes! Each extracted color shows its hex code, which you can take to any paint store or use in online color matchers (Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams, Behr all have hex-to-paint-color tools). We also show the closest common paint name for each color as a starting point.

What types of room photos work best?

Photos with good, natural lighting produce the most accurate color extraction. Avoid heavily filtered or very dark photos. The tool works with any room type — bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, offices, and even outdoor spaces.
